This isn’t a typical “he cheated on me and I’m gonna kill that girl” song. I’m not going to lie; I did have some pretty strong feelings towards the guy and girl that inspired this song, but that’s not what I want the takeaway to be. “Oh Sarah” is more about listening to your instincts.
To give you some context, I was dating a guy, and he had a close friend that was a girl. She was clearly interested in him, but he assured me they had never dated and were just friends. Channeling my inner “easy going chill girlfriend”, I believed him and decided to let it go.
Well, that was easier said than done.
I told my cowriter, Prisca, about the situation and how I felt like my boyfriend and this girl might have feelings for each other that would come to the surface under certain circumstances. So we wrote a song about it. Names in the song were changed to protect the guilty 😉
Fast forward several months, and I learned my lyrics weren’t just suspicions.
Needless to say, we broke up. Relationships don’t always work out, people make mistakes, and that’s just part of life. But if you constantly hear a voice in the back of your head telling you something, don’t tell it to shut up.
